While it may take time before Hua Hin International Airport will take on more flights, travel to Thailand’s south may improve thanks to the construction of the country’s inaugural seaplane terminal at Phuket Airport.
Seaplanes are airplanes that can land on sea and on conventional runways. Seaplane terminals are already frequently used in the Maldives, Vancouver, Canada, and other places worldwide. With the new terminal in Phuket, which is scheduled to open in 2025, Thailand will be added to this list.
Seaplanes are scheduled to fly between Phuket and other tourist destinations, including Hua Hin, Koh Samui and Pattaya. Thanks to quick boarding procedures and fast speeds, seaplanes are a great alternative to regular airplanes, buses and cars.
The tendering and construction processes will begin by early 2028. The Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand (CAAT) is first establishing regulations and standards related to seaplanes.
